Atlantis IDC’s are run by Course Directors Andy Pope and Camille Lemmens who have over two decades of teaching and diving experience between them. They are supported by staff instructors with a variety of backgrounds and experiences… all of whom will play a key part of achieving our two primary goals; making your time with us as fun, rewarding and worthwhile as possible and secondly in making you a well rounded instructor prepared to meet the challenges of today’s diverse diving industry. We have all seen adverts depicting life as a diving instructor as one laying on a beach or soaking up the sun. You don’t become a success anywhere by laying on the beach and our programs are challenging and stimulating. But we do guarantee one of the nicest locations in Asia you could want to be kept busy in. The scenery is spectacular and the diving stunning, and unbelievably convenient. Our resorts represent the best in service and facilities the Philippines has to offer; the atmosphere is fun and the ambiance captivating. Both our resorts are Five Star IDC Facilities denoting the highest standards of diver education; we are also a National Geographic Center and receive regular awards for our contributions to the dive industry! Liveaboards and a full range of technical diving complete the picture and ensure you’ll see everything that makes the dive industry tick during your training. You will use a comfortable 12 seat air-conditioned conference room as your base, just meters from a purpose built training pool. Our facilities include personalized equipment storage area, a purpose built camera room, wireless internet facilities and dive sites just minutes from the resort. You will find we embrace the latest training philosophies, ideas and materials and work to make you the most all round employable instructor possible.
Preparation Days
All our IDC’s are preceded by two preparation days. They are included in your package and we highly recommend that you attend them.
Whether you recently completed your Divemaster course but still feel the need to brush up on some skills or theory, or maybe waited some years or even did your Divemaster training with another training agency, the Preparation Days will be very valuable to you.
The two days include repetition of the skill circuit (24 skills in the pool), reviews of all dive theory exams from the Divemaster program, review of the Instructor Manual, Standards and Procedures, practicing your Rescue skills, practice controlling students in Open Water and of course paperwork.
The Preparation Days focus on the areas where you need more support, and gives you time to review and repeat these areas with a Course Director, before the actual IDC program starts.
How to Prepare
Your own preparation is the key to success at the AI & OWSI Programs, the IE and in life after the IE. These are the key areas to focus on:
- Review the five theory areas (Physics, Physiology, Skills and the Environment, RDP and Equipment) from the Divemaster Manual, Knowledge Workbook and Encyclopedia of Recreational Diving.
- Practice your rescue skills (exercise # 7 from the Rescue Diver Course) to a level where you can DEMONSTRATE rescuing a non-breathing diver at the surface.
- Practice all 24 skills from the Open Water Diver Course to a level where you can DEMONSTRATE each to a score of ‘4’ or above.
- Have your own, current edition, Instructor Manual (make sure each section has the latest edition revisions, contact us or go to www.padi.com to be sure) to use during the OWSI Program and review each section. DVD or paper version are both accepted.
- Review General Standards and Procedures in detail (including the ’s ‘Tasks Purposes & Goals’ and ‘Mission Statement’) in your Instructor Manual and the standards pertaining to each individual course outline.
- Go through the last four Training Bulletins and make sure your Instructor Manual has all the updates. This is REQUIRED before starting the AI Program.
- Watch the Open Water Diver videos (1 to 5) or the OW CD ROM and review the new editions of the Open Water Diver Manual, Adventures in Diving, Rescue and Divemaster Manuals.
- Watch the two videos ‘Open Water Course Effective Conduct and Marketing’ and ‘Peak Performance Buoyancy’.

Pre Requisite
A.I. & O.W.S.I. PREREQUISITE
- Dive Leader certification — Divemaster or leadership-level certification with a recognized recreational diver training organization*who is either:
- an instructor member in good standing, or
- a diver with proof of certification in diver supervision and management including proof of rescue diving certification; 60 logged dives; documented experience in night diving, deep diving and underwater navigation.
- 18 years old
- Medical clearance attesting to dive fitness signed by a physician within the previous 12 months.
- Certified diver for six months.
- EFR Primary and Secondary Care course completion (or qualifying training) within the last 24 months.
- If not a Divemaster, complete the Divemaster course diver rescue skills assessment.
- Submit documentation of qualifying certifications for entry level,advanced, rescue and leadership level, as necessary.
I.E. PREREQUISITE
- Successful IDC or OWSI Program completion within 12 months of IE start date.
- 100 logged dives
- Instructor Certificate of Completion that has both the OWSI/IDC completion date and dive experience sections signed by a Course Director; or a IE Certificate of Participation from a previous IE.
- IE Enrollment form and fee.
- Medical clearance attesting to dive fitness signed by a physician within the previous 12 months
Present a medical statement conducted within the last twelve months.
SPECIALTY PREREQUISITE
- Be renewed Assistant Instructor (certified/upgraded using the 1995 revised curriculum) – Assistant Instructor may apply only for Specialty Instructor certification in non-diving specialties.
- Or be a renewed Underwater Instructor or have completed an IDC/OWSI within the past 12 months – Instructor candidates may apply for Specialty Instructor certification only after becoming certified as instructors.
- Must have made at least 10 dives in the particular specialty area.
