We had a good previous experience at the Atlantis resort in Dumaguete, and were very pleased with this resort as well. We were greeted by the manager and several staff. Many of the staff learned our names within a day or so. Service was excellent overall.
The main draw here is the excellent diving. The dive center was very well organized, with a handy gear storage area, rinse tanks etc. All the dive staff was great and we had two particularly good guides-Thax and Fred. The boats don’t have any shade, but most dive sites are very close by. The dive schedule was 9 AM, 11 AM, 2 PM, 4 PM and 6 PM. Timing was a little tight at times between dives.
All the resorts in the area tend to be built up a hillside. Ask for a room lower down if you don’t want to climb a lot of stairs (especially if you need to go back to the room for something between dives). The room was comfortable, good A/C. Plenty of outlets that took US style plugs. . Plenty of shelves for storage, and a small area for hanging clothes. No drinking water provided in the rooms, but they did have water at the restaurant and dive center where you could refill your bottles.
First off know that this is a dive resort that caters to divers and it is in a third world country. However, I did not dive when I was there…my other half did. I had a blast while I was there. I swam in the pool and relaxed outside by the bar. I did check out other resorts nearby and came to the conclusion that this was the best in Sabang. The resort has never ending drinkable water, coffee, and ice tea at the bar and restaurant. The staff is super friendly … their tag line is “come as a guest, leave as a friend”…that is very true. There were many people that I became friends with from the staff, who I now stay in touch with. Rhoanne the assistant manager was amazing throughout the time I was there. She made sure everything was great every day. Letlet was a wonderful server who always made sure everyone was we hydrated. TonTon, who is the bartender of 50 Bar, has an amazing knowledge of music and can make sure you hear whatever your heart desires while at the bar. Marlon the chef, can put numerous chefs here in Chicago to shame with his creativity.
There are not many places left in the world where you can have a whole beach to yourself. Kayaking, hiking, swimming and snorkeling add to the list of non-diving activities. Some of the best views are from Ponderosa, a nine-hole golf course 500 meters up a near-by mountain or ride a local jeepney to the waterfalls and Hidden Paradise and enjoy a spectacular day out.

Daytrip to Verde Island
Make sure and sign up for our most popular day trip to Verde Island. Experience a 330 foot pinnacle arising from the ocean floor with some of the more spectacular diving in the Philippines. The Verde Island passage is renown as the “center of the center of bio-diversity” in the coral triangle and Verde Island sits smack in the middle where two currents meet creating not only great visibility but stunning populations and diversity of fish life. Trip includes beach side BBQ lunch, drinks and 3 dives. The California Academy of Science expedition sponsored by Atlantis recently discovered over a dozen new species on these sites alone. Don’t miss these “bucket list” dives!
For nearly 50 years Puerto Galera has attracted scientists studying the Eco-structure of microorganisms, animals and plants. The snorkeling is famous for its diversity and guests return time after time to marvel at creatures large and small. This is something for the whole family! There are many deserted beaches in the vicinity, and most are easily accessible by boat.
A beautiful sightseeing tour around Puerto Galera and its untouched beaches; usual departure time around 4pm (back at Atlantis around 7pm). Enjoy drinks and snacks whilst you relax with people from all over the world or play games on the beach; it’s hard not to fall in love with Puerto Galera after this trip.
Located just 14 km from Puerto Galera and near the village of Villaflor. Taste the sweet natural spring water as you enjoy the outstanding scenery, the old growth forest, and beautiful rock formations below the waterfall. Bathe in the pools, bask in the sun, and just relax.
This beautiful golf course situated at the foot of Mount Malasimbo has a challenging 9-hole course and stunning views (some of the best in the area). Don’t miss this opportunity to view Puerto Galera and the entire bay and surrounding area from 500 meters… and don’t forget your camera!
All clubs, balls etc. are available for rent, and the staff will carry your drinks and find your lost balls for you.
Walking, Trekking, Running
Whether you need to stretch your legs or go for a serious run Puerto Galera has popular trails which offer stunning views of the surrounding ocean, as well as the neighboring villages. Puerto Galera is built on a mountain side, so don’t expect any flat tracks. Ask the staff to give you directions to the “loop” or the “light house” and they might even go with you.
Tukuran or Hidden Paradise
A 45 minute jeepney ride from the town of Puerto Galera will take you to the four rivers, where you will have to continue by foot or ox-cart to get to the falls. An amazing place where the waterfalls have had thousands of years to carve and shape the surrounding rocky landscape into pools and small falls.
Beach & Island Hopping
White Beach a kilometer of white sandy beach just 30 minutes away, where you can relax and enjoy a swim in the ocean; it’s the perfect place to see the sun set as well. White beach has restaurants, souvenir shops and volleyball nets.
Haligi, Bayanan and other Beaches between fifteen and thirty minutes away by boat lie several deserted beaches, protected in little coves. Bring your own drinks and snacks, and make it a day out. Many of the beaches have great snorkeling, as well as little caves or palm trees to give you shade during the hottest hours.
