After the huge success of Atlantis’s expeditions to Truk Lagoon in 2005 and 2006, we’re now in the starting blocks for our two trips this year. On request, this year we chose to organize one trip for recreational divers and one for technical divers exclusively. There is also the option of going both weeks – an option which many guests have already signed up for!
Truk Lagoon was the centre of the Japanese Pacific Fleet during WW2. On February 17th 1944, the Allied fleet carried out a crusing raid on this natural harbour and left over 60 wrecks lying on the bottom of this tropical paradise.
The wrecks are covered with marine life and sharks are common, and the artifacts on the wrecks are spectacular. As are the penetrations… Atlantis’ experienced recreational and technical guides will be on the trips, which will be made on the Truk Odyssey, September 2-16 2007.
| Schedule/Dates |
This year, the technical charter takes place September 2-9 and the recreational charter September 9-16. Those of you who chose to join both weeks together will get a day on land on the 9th and be back again on the Odyssey by sunset.
For questions about flights (prices, itineraries) etc, please contact us.

| Your Atlantis Hosts |
Mike Taylor and Matt Reed will be at your service during your week(s) on the Odyssey. Mike will stay for both weeks, whereas Matt has to go back to work after the technical expedition is over. Matt has worked as a dive guide aboard the Odyssey for a year, before he came to Atlantis and will show you all his hidden treasures if you beg nicely – he might even take you into an engine room or two… Mike is now doing his 4th and 5th trips to Truk Lagoon, which says it all.

| Recreational Week |
The typical day begins after a 7:00 a.m. breakfast with your first dive briefing around 7:45. You will be able to do two dives before lunch. During lunch we usually move to a new site. After lunch you have the option to either do another dive, or relax on the sundecks or in the privacy of your own room. A late afternoon dive is also offered. Around 6:30 p.m. a sumptuous dinner will be waiting for you. After dinner, there is always a night dive. At night guests usually gather in the entertainment lounge to enjoy a movie, or review what was captured that day on video.
The best part is that everyone doesn’t dive at the same time. So it is not unusual for you and your buddy to be the only divers on a 500' wreck. The local guides will be at your service if you wish them to be and often you and your buddy will get your own guide.
Most wrecks can be penetrated but this is optional, and all wrecks can be dived without incurring any decompression. |

| Technical Week |
Truk Lagoon is a technical or wreck diver’s dream world. Good conditions, lots of great wrecks with lots of artifacts, and some challenging, but not life threatening penetrations!
To go on the technical week, minimum of extended range certification or similar is required. Because of the deeper wrecks and extended bottom times, we’ll sometimes be using two deco gases to make the most of the wrecks, and you will be diving as part of a team rather than being lead.
We will dive one deep wreck in the early morning after breakfast at around 7am, with depth between 45m and 60m, total dive times usually around 90mins to 2hrs. Have lunch while you off gas, then go back to check out the bits you missed on the first dive. This is usually between 12 and 1pm. Then we move to a shallower wreck (15-40m) for a casual afternoon dive, dinner, prep and planning for the next days morning dive.
A long list of other deep wrecks, as well as the exploration of some shallower ones is the draw for many technical divers. Good visibility, warm water, and the perfect dive boat make this some of the easiest technical wreck diving you can find, as well as the most exciting. Don’t forget to bring your reel! |
